What Working with Blockchain Companies Taught Me
What I learned at EtherWorld and Avarch.
How I got in
I started at EtherWorld writing about Ethereum. Having to explain things like EIPs and consensus to readers made me understand them much better than reading about them did.
Later I joined Avarch LLC as a developer, working on Ethereum products like EIPsInsight.
1. Ignore the hype
There's a lot of noise in crypto. The interesting part is how these systems let people trust each other without a middleman, and the useful work is building tools around that.
2. You'll spend more time communicating than coding
Most Ethereum work happens in distributed teams across timezones. You get good at writing things down, keeping git history clean and reading long specs.
3. Make things easy to check
Working on public infrastructure made me care about transparency. If people can't check what your system is doing, they shouldn't have to trust it. I now apply that to every backend I build, blockchain or not.
